The Last Stand - Memories Of War
THE LAST STAND – MEMORIES OF WAR is a continuous tribute by Gary Bridson-Daley to honour our service veterans as part of his ‘Debt of Gratitude Project’. Gary presents a further 48 gripping and personal stories of World War Two veterans that he obtained whilst it was still possible to do so, from the diminishing ‘few’ left in the United Kingdom who served in that unparalleled and all-consuming global conflict. Relayed here are incredible stories of men and women from the Navy, Army, Air Force, Intelligence Services, Special Forces and Home Front who sacrificed so much in so many ways for our country and for freedom at a time of true national peril. Adding to the historical interest of the book is the fact that a number of these stories and interviews were undertaken and captured by the author for the very first time since they happened over seven decades ago. Each and every veteran a hero in their own way through their very important contributions between 1939-1945, each and every one making their own ‘Last Stand’ through giving and sharing their very unique and remarkable experiences.
Within the Last Stand very importantly the author has striven to include stories and testimonies of veterans from a number of varied backgrounds, cultures and faiths from the U.K, Commonwealth and elsewhere, also some with disabilities in order to try and give the best diversity of servicemen & women from those he was able to find. Interestingly alongside regular veterans featured in the book are also some famous names such as the former Queen Elizabeth II, Philip The Duke of Edinburgh, Dame Vera Lynn, Captain Tom Moore, and the foreword for the book by The Last British Dambuster George 'Johnny' Johnson.
Additionally there is a chapter on the Holocaust, a very different dimension to Second World War history, that has an interview with Auschwitz survivor Mayer Hersh and relative content to follow. The book also has logo validations from 20 highly respected Military & Civilian Organisations.
THE AUTHOR - Gary Bridson-Daley, is a Manchester born author who previously worked as a Tour Manager in travel and tourism for over a decade and the half all over the world. He was inspired to start interviewing and writing about World War Two veterans after meeting some of them in the WW2 related places that he was lucky enough to work or visit over the years, such as all 5 D-Day Landing Beaches and their museums at Normandy in France, Arnhem in Holland, El Alamein in Egypt, Pearl Harbour in Hawaii, Risiera di San Sabba Concentration Camp in Italy, Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland, and scuba dived on the WW2 shipwrecks of the SS Thistlegorm in the Red Sea, Egypt & HMS Maori in Malta, and in the U.K also visited and spent time at; Bletchley Park, Biggin Hill Heritage Hanger, All the Imperial War Museum Sites, Churchill’s grave at Bladon, Bentley Priory: Home of Fighter Command HQ during the Battle of Britain, National Arboretum, Western Approaches Atlantic Convoy Museum and many more WW2 historical locations. Since then he has continued to honour the sacrifices of servicemen and women for posterity through the books he has written on this subject. Following on from ‘The Last Heroes’, ‘The Last Stand’ continues to pay tribute to those who Gary greatly respects for the precious gift of freedom they have given us all over the years as a result of their service and their actions on behalf of our country.
Throughout his Debt of Gratitude Project the motivation of the author resolutely remains, as expressed in his first book, to pay tribute to and write books that are:
